at first, it seemed nice. i like linen. i printed my business cards on pink linen once. or is it laid?
First problem, wtf is the name of the contest / what is it for? 365 50 books / 50 covers competitions. doesn’t make sense to me.
ok page two. this is the other side of the piece when it is closed. now i’m thinking this is a contest for book covers but then what is the 365 part. still don’t get it.
i like the simplicity. all these solids seem like a waste of ink tho. what is the contest for again?
this is what it looks when you lift up the page above. mastercard commercial? its like they chose not to put $0 because that would have been toooo similar. either that or they are making every effort to make this turd completely incomprehensible.
if you could read the text, it would say “enter this contest because this organization is so elite that people will worship you for having won this award and you will probably never have to work again”
more or less.
i finally figured out after going to the site that this direct mailer is advertising for two different contests. 1.AIGA 365 2. 50 books / 50 covers
also, as an obvious aside, though they make such a big deal about the prize not being about money, there is still a $55 entrance fee.
prolly cost $55 to print each one of these horrendous fliers.

this is the crap i keep seeing from ‘designers’. they use a big swath of color and helvetica and some ditsy lines here and there. i don’t consider myself a designer. i’m decent at doing websites but i don’t claim to be all that… but looking through ffffound i see so much of it, ick.
good call. they have basically given up ‘clarity’ for ‘designer-cliche-crap’.

I was just chatting with a friend who is one a board in STL, and what we were kind of realizing is that, this attitude of superiority that AIGA is touting is exactly what is wrong with the organization. People are on AIGA boards for the title. It doesn’t seem like they are getting much done.
She also mentioned that there are other more community driven organizations that get far better turn out than any AIGA event. The AIGA response? Scoff at these, dare i say it, community organizers because what they are doing isn’t going to change the world. This attitude is outdated, and all too familiar.
